One never reaches home, but wherever friendly paths intersect the whole world looks like home for a time.
Hermann Hesse (1877-1962), German novelist, poet. Frau Eva, in Demian, ch. 5 (1960).

Personal Background

On April 18, 1966 I was born at Anderson Memorial Hospital in Norway, Michigan. Norway is located on the south/central border of Michigan's Upper Peninsula (U.P.). Being born in the U.P. makes me a Yooper.

After graduating from Norway High School in 1984 I attended Michigan Technological University, where in 1989 I earned a BS degree in Computer Science. In addition to my degree I also obtained Michigan Secondary Education certification, majoring in computer science and minoring in mathematics. My teaching internship was at Iron Mountain High School, Iron Mountain, Michigan.

On August 10, 1996, I married Ruth Lindquist at Hope Lutheran Church, where we are both members. We live in West Bloomfield, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. I am the secretary for the Detroit Chapter of the MTU Alumni Association, and I play French Horn in the Farmington Community Band.

Professional Background

I am a Senior Information Specialist at EDS and a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer.  I am also a freelance writer and the author of How To Do Everything For Your Pocket PC & Handheld PC. Articles that I have written have been published by Windows CE Power Magazine, Uplink.com, PocketPC.com, and Pocket PC Magazine. In February I became a Microsoft Most Valuable Professional for Windows CE.  You can read about my experience with Windows CE here.

Prior to working for EDS I was a sports reporter for the Daily News in Iron Mountain, Michigan.

Hobbies and Interests

My hobbies and interests include:

Reading
I love to read, lately I have been reading computer books and from time to time I have picked up a Clancy novel.
Photography
One of the coolest toys that I recently purchased was a Kodak digital camera.  Here is a page of some of my pictures.
Music
In addition to playing french horn, I enjoy listening to music of all types.
Sports
I am pretty much your basic arm chair quarterback. However, when I was less of an adult I played tennis.
Computing
Chances are that a professional in the computing industry also does a fair amount of computing at home. I am no different.
Traveling
My wife and I enjoy traveling to various parts of the United States.  While Ruth has been to London, the only country that I have been in other than the U.S. of A. is Canada.
